What you need
Your bank has to offer Zelle® for your business account type [1]. Some banks offer it to people but not to businesses, so ask yours. Venda Wallet asks vendors to use a business account, not a personal profile.
Fees depend on your bank [1]. Venda Wallet is free, but your bank may charge for business Zelle.
At the stall
- Put up a sign with a QR code, so nobody has to type your email or phone number at a busy counter.
- Show the name your Zelle payments come from, so buyers know they're paying the right business.
- Check your bank app before handing over goods. Money typically arrives within minutes [1].
Protecting your buyers
A payment to an enrolled business generally can't be canceled, and buyers are told to pay only businesses they trust [1]. Be clear about prices and make refunds easy, by Zelle, if something goes wrong.
Taxes
Zelle doesn't report payments to the IRS. If the money is taxable, reporting it is up to you [1].
Let regulars prepay
With Venda Wallet, a regular sends one Zelle payment to your business bank and gets a card for your stall. After that you charge them with a scan, and the app keeps the balance. You confirm each Zelle payment after you see it in your bank.
Questions
Can I use my personal Zelle for my market stall?
Venda Wallet asks vendors to use a business account that their bank enrolls in Zelle for small businesses, not a personal profile. Check your bank's terms too.
Does Zelle charge businesses fees?
It depends on your bank. Check with your bank or credit union to see what fees apply.
Does Zelle report to the IRS?
Zelle says it doesn't report payments to the IRS. If the money is taxable, you report it.
